Common questions
Where is my plan saved?
In your own browser, on this device (local storage). Nothing is sent to us. To move it to another device, use “Download backup” and then “Restore backup” there. Clearing your browser data deletes it, so download a backup of anything important.
How much contingency should I add?
It’s your call. The right buffer depends on the project: opening walls or working on an old house carries more unknowns than painting a room. Set the percentage, and the planner adds it to your total so surprises don’t come out of money you’ve already committed.
How do I get materials from a calculator into my plan?
On any Buildzly calculator, enter your measurements and press “Add to my project plan”. The shopping list and any cost you priced appear here, with a link back to the exact estimate.
Can I open the budget in Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. “Download budget (CSV)” saves a spreadsheet file with every line, the subtotal, contingency and total. Prefer a ready-made workbook? Get the free renovation budget spreadsheet.
Should I do the work myself or hire someone?
Compare a contractor’s quote with your own materials, tools and time in the DIY vs hire a pro calculator. It also lists the permit and safety rules that can decide it for you.
